This wine comes entirely from the Puligny-Montrachet section of the Grand Cru, from vines which are over 50 years old (planted in 1962). The parcel is perfectly positioned in the Bâtard-Montrachet “shoulder” – the plot lying between Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and the great Le Montrachet itself. As in Clos-Vougeot, top section Bâtard plots are the best. Harvesting took place on 28th August when the grapes were perfectly ripe, and their natural freshness could still be captured. In colour, this is pale green-golden, with opulently rich, superb aromas. Palate is full-bodied, with magnificent fruit intensity, many layers of flavour and lush texture. The wine has been ageing in one third new oak barrels, but their influence is imperceptible, so concentrated is the wine’s intrinsic fruitiness. A supremely elegant bottle, with outstanding potential (for drinking 2018-2030+).
