This is a small property by Haut-Médoc standards, with just 20 acres under vines, but it is one of our favourite Saint-Estèphe addresses. 1986 was Guy Delon`s first harvest here, after the family property, Ch Phélan-Ségur, had been sold, following his parents` death. As with the greatest classed growths, the vineyards here benefit from the warming influence of the Gironde estuary, which is very close by.
The 2016 has a bright purple colour, with enticing, fresh, floral aromas, recalling ripe black berry fruits. This is one of the most complete and harmonious 2016s we tasted, with ample flesh and broad, satisfying textures. The tannins are ripe and in perfect balance. There is an energy and brightness in this wine, which will be wonderful to drink from 2022-2030+.
