This is a tiny property (less than 15 acres) whose vines lie on sandy-gravel soils which have benefited from recent investments in improved drainage. The blend in 2014 reflects the plantings. 80% Merlot, with 20% Cabernet Franc, the average age of the vines being 35 years. Wine-maker Florens Caldier recounts. “We responded to the disappointing, early August by leaf-thinning twice, and then by de-compacting the grape-bunches, removing any pink grapes, after they had begun to turn colour.” The grapes were soaked at cool temperature for 3 to 4 days prior to fermentation, and the wine is now ageing for 12 months in barrels which are 1/3 new, with 1/3 each in casks which have held one or two harvests. Colour is rich, red-purple, the nose being open and fragrantly lively. Ripe fruitiness and appetising freshness characterise this wine, which will be easy to enjoy while youthful thanks to its silky tannins (for drinking 2017-2020+).
