Domaine des Florets is a relatively recent success story in Gigondas, having been revived in 2007 with the arrival of new ownership and winemaker Jérôme Boudier. The domaine`s location, at the foot of the eye-catching Dentelles de Montmirail, is simply beautiful. The vines for this “Les Florets” cuvée perch precariously above the domaine buildings, on north-east facing, mountainside terraces. This is “high altitude Gigondas”, which perhaps explains why we like it so much. A blend of 80% Grenache with 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, great lengths are taken to treat grapes and wine gently, resulting in a Gigondas that is classically powerful but has elegance and lightness of touch. Deep ruby-purple colour, aromas are tightly woven and lifted, leading to a palate that is full, fine and gently tannic. Flavours are complex, recalling sweet strawberries, spiced orange peel and licorice. Enjoy this now, or keep some bottles back to drink over the next 5 years.
