Vine age is an important contributory factor in the production of high quality Châteauneuf-du-Pape. At Font de Joubert, a great number of the Charrier family`s Grenache vines are centenarians, these gnarled old vines giving intensely concentrated juice, contributing complexity and depth of flavour. A field blend from 5 plots, predominantly comprising Grenache (97%) co-planted with the other 12 grape varieties authorised for Châteauneuf production (most red, some white), this wine is very much of the elegant rather than powerful Châteauneuf school. Mid ruby colour, aromas are smoky and spiced, with notes of red fruits and fresh herbs. Palate starts full and grows in the mouth; it is structured, multi-layered, silkily textured and lively. The finish is long-lasting (for drinking 2017-2022+).
