The Sottocastello di Novello vineyard sits at 470m, right next door to one of the best-known vineyards in Serralunga – Cannubi. The grapes that go in to this wine come from vines right at the top of the vineyard, where they experience a large diurnal temperature range, creating a wine of great complexity. This is serious Barolo, without a serious price. An incredibly perfumed nose of concentrated, ripe red fruits, spices and subtle menthol notes leads to a palate of pure, clean, singing fruit. This is a complex, detailed, layered wine of very fine texture, great power and beauty, and magnificent length. Still young and fresh, it can be approached now but will develop further over the next ten years. Now – 2025+. 14%.
