The Castéja family has poured huge investment into this château over recent years, and quality has climbed impressively. The 2016 has a higher proportion – 85% – of Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, with 12% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. The wine aged in 60% new barrels. The colour is mid ruby, the nose being open, with bright aromas of great distinction. Palate is well-structured, with dense fruitiness and tannins which are fully rounded, without asperity or harshness. This is a classic Pauillac of power and character, with great length (for drinking 2023–2035+).
